Join us for a birthday celebration of artist and Bangor-native Waldo Peirce as we mark his 140th birthday. There will be art projects for all ages and cake at 2pm.
About Waldo Peirce
Waldo Peirce was born December 17, 1884 in Bangor, Maine. Heir of generations of lumber barons on both sides of his family, Waldo attended Philips Academy, Harvard University, and the Academie Julien in Paris.
Waldo Peirce was a veteran of WWI and served as an ambulance driver for the Field Service of the American Ambulance Corps. He was on the front lines at Verdun and awarded the Croix de Guerre for bravery.
Artist, world traveler, and best friend of Ernest Hemmingway, Waldo Peirce found solace and contentment in his children and life in Maine, especially Bangor. Waldo Peirce died in 1970 and laid to rest in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
