 ve Waldo Peirce as we mark his 140th birthday. There will be art project
 s for all ages and cake at 2pm.\n\nAbout Waldo Peirce\n\nWaldo Peirce wa
 s born December 17\, 1884 in Bangor\, Maine. Heir of generations of lumb
 er barons on both sides of his family\, Waldo attended Philips Academy\,
  Harvard University\, and the Academie Julien in Paris.\n\nWaldo Peirce 
 was a veteran of WWI and served as an ambulance driver for the Field Ser
 vice of the American Ambulance Corps. He was on the front lines at Verdu
 n and awarded the Croix de Guerre for bravery.\n\nArtist\, world travele
 r\, and best friend of Ernest Hemmingway\, Waldo Peirce found solace and
  contentment in his children and life in Maine\, especially Bangor. Wald
 o Peirce died in 1970 and laid to rest in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
