Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC) and Downtown Bangor Partnership (DBP) return for a third year to ask, “How are You?” under the Umbrella Sky installation on Cross Street in Downtown Bangor. EMMC and the DBP continue their partnership in bringing the community the Umbrella Sky Project, a spectacular, experiential art installation.
The Umbrella Sky installation runs from mid May to mid October on Cross Street in Downtown Bangor, featuring the bright umbrella canopy along with additional whimsical touches like upside down umbrella benches and flower planters.
The Umbrella Sky on Cross Street has become a beloved spot for travelers and locals alike to pause, rest on the umbrella-shaped benches, and enjoy the flowers in their umbrella planters. A favorite photo stop, visitors are encouraged to share their experience using #HowAreYouBangor and #UmbrellaSky, and tagging @northernlighthealth and @downtownbangor on social media.
About the Umbrella Sky Project
With over 170 installations worldwide, The Umbrella Sky Project began in 2011 as a part of the city of Águeda, Portugal’s annual Ágitagueda Art Festival. “The motto is to color life, bring color to the gray spaces of the city and make the ones who pass by smile,” according to promotional material from Impactplan, the creative agency behind the umbrellas. “A simple idea that brings life and protection to public spaces and at the same time transports us to a fantasy world.”
