What Happens to Bangor’s Trash?

BangorPublicLibraryLogo 1

Bangor’s trash is being processed at the Municipal Waste Solutions facility in Hampden. The Hampden facility is a full-service waste recycling facility that does the work of separating recyclables from the waste stream. Residents do not have to sort their waste to ensure recycling. We are taking in waste, unsorted and untouched, from Bangor’s trash cans.

Sophisticated machinery at the plant completes the sorting for residents. As a result, we are able to achieve much higher recycling yields than traditional recycling practices and divert more of Bangor’s waste from landfill than ever before. 100% of Bangor residents participate in recycling because of this facility, whether they know it or not.

This presentation will be all about the machinery that allows us to take in unsorted waste and pull-out recyclable materials. It will touch on waste generation and recycling topics as well.

The goal of this presentation is to help Bangor residents understand what is happening to their waste.
