The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning

LibraryEndofLifePlanning

Gisele Biron will lead this workshop based on the book The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning by Margareta Magnusson. Using the book as a guide, she will provide helpful hints on how to get started on downsizing and having the end-of-life discussion with loved ones.

Gisele Biron, Bereavement Facilitator, has been overseeing the MaineHealth Bereavement Program for the last three years, offering a variety of bereavement support forums for the MaineHealth Care Team. She founded the program shortly after COVID-19, believing that staff might need an outlet for personal and professional grief.

Gisele is continually expanding the variety of support groups and educational sessions offered by the bereavement program to offer resources about disenfranchised grief, loving an addict, caring for the caregiver, complex loss involving suicide, pet loss, grief in the workplace, the gentle art of Swedish death cleaning, navigating the holidays, end-of-life conversation skills, as well as the nature of grief across different cultures.

Gisele has been active as a volunteer bereavement facilitator for 18+ years, having trained with Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice. She graduated from Bates College with a degree in Biology and has been working for over 50 years in the teaching/medical fields.

She enjoys spending time with her family, her 2-year-old grandson, traveling, walking the beach at OOB, and has done lots of reading on grief to prepare for the aforementioned classes.
