The Bangor Waterfront – a Jane’s Walk event

Screen Shot 2025 05 02 at 10.15.03 AM

This walking tour will focus on Bangor’s waterfront, highlighting the areas downriver from the Kenduskeag Stream’s entrance into the Penobscot River. We will use old pictures showing what buildings and industries once occupied the area and talk about the transformation into what we see today. Throughout the walk, we will be discussing Jane Jacob’s life, her work, and how many of her ideas are seen in Bangor today. Wear comfortable shoes and dress weather appropriate. Water is encouraged. The walk stays on the city sidewalks.

Leading the walk will be local historians and city planners/officials to help provide insight into the buildings, people, and the changes that this part of the city has seen over the years. We hope that the takeaways from this walk will increase awareness of Bangor’s history as well as past and future city planning.

Questions can be directed to curator@bangorhistoricalsociety.org.
