Solar Eclipse Viewing Party

Solar Eclipse Party IG
Date:
Time: to
Location: Bangor Public Library

On Monday, April 8, 2024 a total eclipse of the sun will occur in the Northern Hemisphere and Northern Maine is on the “path of totality” when the moon completely blocks the sun and we experience a brief moment of darkness on earth. Bangor is not on the path of totality, but will experience a 99% eclipse. The maximum totality in Bangor will be at 3:32pm and will be a very deep partial eclipse, with some amount of sky darkening.

If you’re not headed to the path of totality, join library staff on the Atrium patio at 3pm as we prepare the countdown to maximum eclipse at 3:32pm. We’ll have indirect methods including pinhole projectors and colanders. Please note that the library has a limited number of eclipse glasses to distribute in advance of the eclipse (2 per household, available at the Reference Desk on the second floor), but will not have glasses to give away at this event.
