Entry Point to the World: An Exploration of Maritime Bangor

This walk will take place along Bangor’s waterfront and will explore the history and evolution of the waterfront and Bangor’s maritime culture, starting with pre-Colonial Native American history and ending at the modern day. We will also discuss how different aspects of the waterfront and surrounding development relate to the ideas of Jane Jacobs. The Chair of Bangor’s Historic Preservation Commission (an archaeologist by trade) will be discussing the historical aspects of the walk, with Bangor Planning staff accompanying to provide supporting information about Jane Jacobs’ ideas. The walk will be short in distance, starting at Broad Street Park and end at the intersection of Front Street and Railroad Street (about 0.35 miles). Attendees should bring sun protection and water.
