Darwin and the Finches
Darwin and the Finches (DATF) formed in early 2019 among friends in the local Portland musician scene. Like a gut punch of positive energy, four-piece indie-punk band Darwin and the Finches leaves no stone unturned. Their debut album Life is Long was released in early 2020, featuring a kaleidoscope of sounds: Death Cab for Cutie, Neutral Milk Hotel, Songs:Ohia, Modest Mouse all make their presence known. Accompanied by an intense live show, like a rollercoaster that’s constructed in a way to intentionally feel like it’s coming off the rails, you won’t want to miss these DIY up-and-comers. Life is Long can be found on all streaming services, and on the bandcamp link below. Watch their new music video for I Heard the Water and try not to fall in love. I dare you.
Sullen Eyes
is a jangly twee pop band from the GBA
– Originally forming in the late months of 2019
Sullen was able to squeeze one last minute gig before the world shut down due to the pandemic. The original trio of Seymour, Koelsch and Steer grew to five
– bringing on both bassist Matt Donovan & percussionist Ryan Asselin in 2021!
With their no fills, bare basics approach Sullen Eyes sound as if they could easily have come from nearly any decade of rock history. It’s this timeless quality combined with their unabashed love of pop music which exudes a feeling innocence and purity to their songs. This was what made indie pop so great to begin with back in its ’80s infancy – guitar pop distilled down to its essentials and carried along by a sincere passion for melody. – Dane Di Perro, fadeawayradiate
