Community Walks

Downtown Bangor is a very walkable area, and many opportunities exist for self-guided tours, like the Interactive Art Walk, and for guided tours by local organizations, like the Bangor Historical Society.

In the spring of 2025, the Events Committee suggested that it would be nice to get a group of people together to walk every couple of weeks as a fun, easy community engagement activity with a side of fitness. It was further suggested that these might be even better with a splash of whimsey, with themes and costumes. So on a warmish March midday, a small herd of people in inflatable dinosaur costumes and masks –and their supporters– waved and roared their way through town, bringing surprised smiles, laughter, supportive honks, and chaotic joy to the city. (You can read about that first walk right here: https://i95rocks.com/weird-walk-wednesdays-downtown-bangor-2025/ )

Weird Walkin’ Wednesday was born. People noted that noon was not ideal for many people, so evening walks were added, as well as the occasional Silly Strollin’ Saturday.

Everyone is welcome to join these walks, which are one mile long, and begin at West Market Square. There is no fee to attend, and while dressing or playing to the walk theme is encouraged, it’s not a requirement. It’s just a simple, fun way to gather, experience Downtown Bangor, and spend time with fellow whimsical walkers.
