SUMMARY:Summer Music Series-The Yankee Brass Band
DESCRIPTION:Since 1987\, the Yankee Brass Band has entertained audiences
  in New England and beyond with historically informed performances of ni
 neteenth-century American brass band music. Using antique brass and perc
 ussion instruments from the period\, painstakingly restored by their own
 ers\, the Yankee Brass Band presents the music of the “Golden Age of B
 ands” played in much the same manner as in the mid-to the late ninetee
 nth century. \n\nTo recreate this music\, the band pays close attention 
 to the aesthetics\, performance practice\, and concert attire of an earl
 ier time. For one week each summer\, the members of the Yankee Brass Ban
 d assemble from across the country to preserve this unique musical legac
 y through a series of live performances. Each year’s concert repertoir
 e is developed through careful study of period programs\, personal paper
 s\, manuscripts\, and early printed music\, along with a variety of band
  artifacts.\n\nThe musicians of the Yankee Brass Band volunteer their ti
 me and talents to bring this music to life. The annual band events are a
 lso made possible\, in part\, through the support of the Friends of the 
 Yankee Brass Inc. a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. In addition\, finan
 cial support is provided by concert sponsorships and the generous contri
 butions of individuals.\n\nIf raining\, the band will perform in the Lec
 ture Hall.
