SUMMARY:Control Your Bones’ Fate
DESCRIPTION:Seize the opportunity to learn more about:\n\n(1)  basic bon
 e physiology\,\n\n(2)  osteoporosis\, and\n\n(3)  general principles of 
 exercise prescription for promoting bone health\, minimizing bone loss\,
  and managing osteoporosis.\n\nWe will address the importance of providi
 ng adequate mechanical stimulation to bones in order to activate the mec
 hanisms that preserve their density and strength.  We will discuss commo
 n misconceptions regarding optimal exercise for bone health\, as well as
  exercise-related safety concerns.  Finally\, we will provide ample time

 t the Presenter\n\nNicole Mullins\, Ph.D.\, brings more than 30 years of
  experience in the field of exercise physiology to the Bangor Region YMC
 A\, where she currently serves as the Director of Fitness and Health.  M
 ullins earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in exercise physiology from Kent State 
 University\, and her B.S. in exercise science from the University of New
  Hampshire (UNH).  Both her master’s thesis and doctoral dissertation 
 revolved around various exercise-related and nutritional factors affecti
 ng bone health and osteoporosis risk.  Mullins is certified by the Ameri
 can College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)\, as a Certified Exercise Physiolo
 gist (EP)\, and by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (N
 SCA)\, as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).  She 
 formerly served as a professor of exercise science\, at Youngstown State
  University\, where she earned several distinctions for her teaching and
  service to students.  Regardless of position\, her career mission has a
 lways centered on educating as many people as possible on the immense ab
 ility of regular physical activity to enhance quality of life.
