SUMMARY:Celebrate the 250th - A Community Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:This year marks the 250th anniversary (or “semiquincentenn
ial”) of the signing of the Declaration of Independence\, recognizing
the founding of the United States. The Bangor Public Library has a numbe
r of activities and programs to celebrate this special year.\n\n\n\nFirs
t\, we have a special celebration! Join us for the unveiling of several
community exhibits that seek to engage with the 250th through the Humani
 ties.\n\n\n\nDrafting the Declaration:Examples of Thomas Jefferson's fir
st draught (sic) of the Declaration and a copy of the Declaration celebr
ating the 13 colonies will be highlighted by Dixie Redmond's artwork.(St
airwell Gallery)\n\n\n\nAmerican Flag Mural:The Bangor Public Library en
gaged community members to design 312 5.5-inch canvas squares to create
a large-scale American flag. The individual squares together form a vibr
ant version of the American flag\, a symbol of unity\, shared purpose\,
hope\, and love for our country. (Cyr Gallery)\n\n\n\nBangor High School
Students' Projects Exhibit:This is a collaborative effort between Histo
ry\, Visual &amp\; Performing Arts (VPA)\, and Humanities programs. Stud
ents were tasked with creating an interactive project based on the follo
wing prompt: How does the Declaration of Independence’s idea of “lif
e\, liberty\, and the pursuit of happiness” inspire you? The interacti
ve nature of the work was used to encourage students to expand the exper
ience and showcase creative thinking. (Cyr and McDade Galleries)\n\n\n\n
Bangor High School Students' Annual Student Showcase:Celebrate the accom
plishments of local art students. (Lecture Hall Gallery)\n\n\n\nPlus\, l
isten to the Bangor High School Jazz Band while enjoying light refreshme
nts and snacks. A community coloring wall\, made up of a map of the Unit
ed States and created by the Bangor High School Art Department\, will al
so be on display for younger patrons to color.
