launch of Morgan Talty's new book\, "Night of the Living Rez". Talty wi
ll discuss his book with Donna M. Loring\, author and elder of the Penob
scot Indian Nation.\n\n\n\nBooks will be for sale at the event courtesy
of The Briar Patch.\n\n\n\nAbout the Book\n\n\n\nSet in a Native communi
ty in Maine\, Night of the Living Rez is a riveting debut collection abo
ut what it means to be Penobscot in the twenty-first century and what it
means to live\, to survive\, and to persevere after tragedy.\n\n\n\nIn
twelve striking\, luminescent stories\, author Morgan Talty—with seari
ng humor\, abiding compassion\, and deep insight—breathes life into ta
les of family and a community as they struggle with a painful past and a
n uncertain future. A boy unearths a jar that holds an old curse\, which
sets into motion his family’s unraveling\; a man\, while trying to sw
indle some pot from a dealer\, discovers a friend passed out in the wood
s\, his hair frozen into the snow\; a grandmother suffering from Alzheim
er’s projects the past onto her grandson\; and two friends\, inspired
by Antiques Roadshow\, attempt to rob the tribal museum for valuable roo
t clubs.\n\n\n\nA collection that examines the consequences and merits o
f inheritance\, Night of the Living Rez is an unforgettable portrayal of
an Indigenous community and marks the arrival of a standout talent in c
 ontemporary fiction.\n\n\n\nAbout the Authors\n\n\n\nMorgan Talty\n\n\n\
